Aleix Barrera-Corominas presented the UrBIOfuture project at a Workshop organized by the EU.

On October 26, the Workshop “Promotion of education, training and skills in the bioeconomy” took place online, coordinated by Deloitte, Empírica, Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini and the European Union, through the General Directorate for Research and Innovation. This conference aims to consult the main experts in bioeconomy on the current situation of training in this field and on the future needs for training and skills in bioeconomy in the European Union, while promoting a network of contacts between the main actors in the sector .

Barrera-Corominas, as co-coordinator of the UrBIOfuture project, presents the main results obtained during the development of the project on the lessons learned from the needs in training and educational programs in bioeconomy in Europe.

The project, led by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) through the EDO Group during the years 2019 and 2020, aimed to bring Europe to the forefront of the Bio sector by identifying the educational needs and gaps in the Bio d 'Europe sector. , pointing out career opportunities in research and involving all interested parties in a co-creation process that offers the "UrBIOFuture Experience" as a fundamental tool to attract talent and provide professional guidance. The project was funded by BBI-JU within the framework of the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

The new BIObec project gives continuity to the work started by UrBIOfuture. This project, financed within the framework of the H2020 program, seeks to promote training in the bioeconomy by merging the traditional idea of a training center with that of a knowledge node. The project will establish Bio-Based Training Centers (BBECs) at various levels to act as knowledge nodes that bridge the gap between academic institutions, students, innovation entities and policymakers. Furthermore, BBECs are expected to be flexible enough to respond to the current and future needs of the industry and the surrounding local, regional and national ecosystem.
