Margarita Aravena, professor of the Universidad Católica de Chile, starts a postdoctoral stage in EDO-UAB.

Margarita Aravena Gaete, PhD in Educational Planning and Innovation by the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, and Adjuct Assistant Professor of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Learning evaluation, will develop a postdoctoral stage in the EDO-UAB group between September 2017 and December 2018.

During these months, Dr. Aravena will develop the research project titled: “Strategies of self-regulation in Certified Spanish Universities: Continuous improvement in Teaching Quality”; the purpose of the project mentioned is to propose effective strategies of developing self-regulation that might allow to define continuous progress of a continuous improvement plan of a university organization. The objective is that these strategies foster teaching quality and, thus, generate cyclic processes of self-regulation.

The specific goals stablished in the research are:
- Describing standards, criteria and responsible people of follow ups and monitoring of improving plans.
- Identifying mechanisms oriented to processes and results of continuous improvement.
- Describing self-regulation strategies used in certified universities in their improvement plan.
- Stablishing formal channels of feedback in intern groups associated with a Teaching Quality System.

Aravena has worked for more than 20 years as Education Advisor in the War Academy of the Chile’s Army, being one of its responsibilities to coordinate the processes of Institutional Accreditation and Postgraduate studies. The main research lines in which she has worked are focused on strategies to enhance Reading habits, institutional assessment and evaluation of teachers’ performance
