This project aims to facilitate processes of literacy in a commune of Santiago de Chile (Chile), taking into consideration the needs of the child and adolescent population attending the Lo Navíos community centre. This cooperation project is aimed at making more dynamic and consolidating communities of practice that are oriented towards developing multiple or multimodal literacy (see school drop out rates and the low achievement rates for the school population in social and educational diagnoses), promote social cohesion and the treatment of different topics that brings the three strands of the social and community action of the centre together (promotion of rights, preventative intervention - school literacy, transversal initiatives - health and gender).
Taking Bautista's works (2007, 2009, 2010) as a reference the first phase in to train the social and community agents to give them the tools and content necessary for communities of practice as outlined by the author mentioned above. The second phase works on multiple literacy with groups of children and adolescents, taking advantage of their interests (rock groups, hip hop), in order to gradually achieve the following:
1-) Literacy understood as the development of capacities and skills for reading and writing as well as the use of other systems of representation. This objective is justifies by the need to consolidate training practices that consolidate language as a fundamental tool for representation and communication and which mitigates inequalities of access to knowledge.
2-) And a process of group construction in which the children and adolescents can orientate their behaviour, establishing values and shaping their social lives from a references of citizenship that is full of rights and responsibilities.
